First of all, the "MU&qu...Here is my thoughts:
First of all, the "MU" seems to be old term, now it is called "Solaris Update Patch Bundles" at sunsolve.

Secondly, by reading the training docs at sun, it recommended you do a full blown upgrade to latest build (so that it will include new packages delivered in new release) , you apply the "update bundles" (a.k.a MU) only when your environment won't allow "upgrade" but ok for "patching", however, new pakcages won't be included in such patch bundles. And both of them (update bundle or full upgrade) need use live upgrade as best practice.

So assuming following steps:
(1) Live Upgrade (LU) full blow upgrade or install "Update bundles" to inactive BE;
(2) LU Sun Alert cluster to inactive BE;
(3) LU Sun Recommended cluster to inactive BE;
(4) luactivate and test;

As you can see, even above steps are not trivial....

I wonder if other tool (namely "pca") can work more closely with such best practice, currely pca only identify RS (Recommend and Security) patches, can it be made to identify update bundles, sun alert bundles as well, thus it can be kept align with such best practice?

Just my two cents, please advise.KThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14292708579631580172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31367897.post-86625427758583690972009-11-20T04:43:59.655-05:002009-11-20T04:43:59.655-05:00Interesting post.
I don't like the patch clust...Interesting post.
I don't like the patch clusters.
So my strategy is a little bit different.
I freeze a patchdiag.xref on a specific day and just install all patches using LU and pca.
When testing is done. I roll out the same patches with the frozen patchdiag to the production servers.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12758007564116552878noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31367897.post-74259477483922477322009-11-20T03:22:29.315-05:002009-11-20T03:22:29.315-05:00What is your opinion on smpatch or pca?
